Changing who drives your car

The quickest way to add or change a driver during your lease is with a Motability Scheme online account. To do this, sign in or create an account, then choose 'Insurance' in the menu.

If the driver passes our checks, we'll add them to your insurance and they can drive your vehicle straight away. We'll send you a letter to confirm and you'll see a copy in your account the next day.

You can also call our insurance provider on 0300 037 3737 and they'll change your drivers for you. Only you, your appointee or nominee can ask for a driver to be changed and they will need to speak to the new driver.

Your drivers will need to confirm they'll stick to the Scheme guidelines and acknowledge a declaration(opens in a new window) to have their licence checked. So they need to be with you when you call.

Temporary drivers

We understand you might need a temporary driver from time to time, for things like holidays or when relatives visit.

You can add a temporary driver at no extra cost in your Motability Scheme online account.

If you already have three drivers on your policy, you'll need to swap one of these out to make room for the new driver.

You can add a temporary driver on your policy for up to 30 days at a time. They always need to stick to the Scheme rules and use the vehicle for your benefit.

You cannot use temporary drivers as a substitute for a permanent driver. If you rely on this driver throughout the year, you'll need to include them on your Certificate of Motor Insurance as a permanent driver. Please call our insurance provider on 0300 037 3737 for more information.
