WAV stands for Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle. This means you can travel in the vehicle while seat in your wheelchair

How do I add drivers and who can they be?

We can cover up to three drivers on your lease.

They all need to:

  • Have a valid driving licence
  • Meet our insurance provider's eligibility criteria and are subject to the Scheme’s policies

Our insurance provider will need details about each driver, including:

  • Licence number
  • Date of birth
  • Any motoring convictions

The vehicle must be used by, or for the benefit of, the disabled person. This person does not have to be in the car for every journey or be a driver.

Only drivers listed on the Certificate of Motor Insurance can drive the vehicle.

How to add or change a driver

You can add your drivers when you apply, or later.

You can see, add or change your drivers during your lease in the ‘Insurance cover’ section in your Motability Scheme online account.

These can be helpful to make sure multiple carers can use the vehicle.

You can get them if the customer lives in or is eligible to live in a residential care home, nursing home or school, or needs 24-hour care.

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle customers who need multiple drivers to support their care needs are also eligible.

Drivers must have a full UK or EU driving licence, with no at-fault accidents in the last three years or motoring convictions in the last five years.

Call our insurance provider to talk to them about this.
