Did you know? You can travel abroad for up to 90 days in total within a 12-month period.
Taking your vehicle abroad
You can take your Motability Scheme vehicle to countries in the European Union.
And to:
- Norway
- Switzerland
- Liechtenstein
If you’d like to stay longer than 90 days, please contact us at least three weeks before you travel. We’ll let you know if we can agree to this and confirm it in writing. You cannot take your vehicle abroad for more than 12 months.
Before you travel, you need to get a VE103 form. This proves you have permission to take your Scheme vehicle abroad.
Here’s how:
- Call the RAC on 0800 731 3310 at least three weeks before you leave
- Tell them about your travel plans
- Pay an administration fee for the VE103, if you applied for your vehicle on or after 1July 2026
- Understand how your cover works: the RAC will explain it
You’ll have RAC breakdown cover while you’re abroad. This is different from your UK cover. How they’ll help will vary, depending on:
- Where you are
- The time of day
- The time of year
If you travel without arranging your VE103, you’ll need to pay any recovery or repair costs yourself.
