Electric Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles

What is an electric Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (eWheelchair Accessible Vehicle)?

They’re Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles) that have been fitted with an electric battery.

This means you’ll charge them and they have a battery range, just like an electric car.

Things to consider

  • We’ll arrange and cover the cost of a home chargepoint and a standard installation
  • Or we’ll give you access to the bp pulse network of over 9,000 public chargepoints
  • Engineering an eWheelchair Accessible Vehicle can be challenging for our suppliers for a few of reasons
  • We do not have many on the Scheme right now. We’ll add more in the future
  • They're expensive because the base vehicle costs a lot more than the typical petrol or diesel base suppliers use for most Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle conversions

Engineering an eWheelchair Accessible Vehicle can be challenging

Our suppliers have to make sure the position of the battery does not interfere with the lowered floor.

The base vehicle also costs a lot more than the non-electric versions they usually use for Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles.

This is why we do not have many eWheelchair Accessible Vehicles on the Scheme right now and why the Advance Payment you’ll pay for these is more expensive.

Talk to your supplier to hear more about what they're doing in the industry and the future of these vehicles.
